Meet Michael

Michael Barwick
Michael Barwick

Hi, my name is Michael, but often called Barwick (my surname) and I am 22. I live in Chelmsford and go to St Augustine of Canterbury parish. I once went to St John Payne where I was the head boy. I would describe myself as welcoming, supportive, honest and someone who has good sense of humour.

I have worked at Walsingham house for 3 years now. I started out looking for a gap year then opportunity after opportunity arose and I decided to stay at the house. Last year I was a voluntary programme leader and this gave me the chance to be the assistant manager this year.

I am a great lover of TV, music and football. I support Arsenal and hope they can finally win something. Some of my favourite shows are X factor, the Inbetweeners, Gavin and Stacey, Outnumbered and of course the only way is Essex. I really love listening to music and the highlight of my year is normally V Festival. I have been 4 times now and already have my ticket for next year. This year was awesome and the best moments would be seeing arctic monkeys, Rihanna and Eminem.

Being part of the youth service is also fantastic. I have had the opportunities to go Lourdes at Easter and summer, being part of the papal visit last September and also taking part in numerous events throughout the year. I would encourage you all to try and get involved in the BCYS as you will meet people who have a lot of things in common with you and also make so many friends. During my time at Walsingham House I have had some amazing moments at the house and with the youth service. I love working with all the groups that visit and I am always fascinated by people's faith and how open they are to talk about it.

We hear that the church is losing young people but I disagree. Seeing young people at Walsingham House enjoying their faith and wanting to take part in all the activities shows that young people are interested and that the church is alive and it has a bright future. When you come to Walsingham House have an open mind and open heart and may you experience Christ in a different way. I look forward to meeting you all this coming year!

See you soon,
Michael
