Hey everyone I'm Olivia! I'm 19 years old and am originally from the Holy Family Parrish in Benfleet, although I now live in Sunny Southend.
I went to St. Bernard's High School in Westcliff and left there in 2008, where I went on to study Media, English Language and Textiles at Seevic College. After successfully completing my A Levels I then went on to Study Art and Design at foundation Level, Where I received a Merit in the Fashion Pathway.
In my spare time you will probably find me watching Gilmore Girls or Friends on the Telly. I absolutely love music, and have far too many favourite bands to list here, but I love mostly anything and everything from Belle & Sebastian and The Cure to Plan B and Eminem!
I first heard about Walsingham House when I was in year 10 and came here on a weekend retreat. Although I was taking my confirmation, I had never really thought too deeply about my faith, but that weekend changed everything. It was so great spending the weekend discussing faith and religion in a fun and exciting way. And up until then I had never really thought about religion other than when in school During R.E. Walsingham house had such a great community feel to it, and it was so lovely to see the leaders so passionate about what they do, and so keen to share their experiences with other people.
The idea to apply for the team at Walsingham was rather spur of the moment, but it was definitely one of the best decisions I have made. I decided to apply as I wasn't sure if University was right for me, and although I am still unsure as to whether or not to continue my studies, this year will really help me decide what to do and hopefully provide me will new experiences and important skills. It will also help me gain enough confidence, both in myself and my faith.
I can't wait to live as part of an amazing community, meeting new people from all different backgrounds and making lots of lovely new friends. I am so excited to share my own experiences with others and hopefully help to make a difference to a young person's faith, just like the way that my leaders did to me.
This is the first time I have been involved with the BCYS, and up until now I hadn't really heard of it before, but already, only a few weeks in I am hooked!
I look forward to meeting others who work within the Brentwood diocese and discovering the important roles that they have within the ever-growing community that is the BCYS. I am so thankful for this opportunity and can't wait an amazing year!
