Siobhan Moggan, Volunteer

Meet Siobhan

Siobhan Moggan

Hey, my name is Siobhan and this is my second time working at Walsingham house. I've spent the majority of my life living in sunny Basildon where I attend Holy Trinity church. I spent a lot of time in my teens resembling a deckchair thanks to my Brentwood Ursuline blazer!!

Before university I decided to volunteer at Walsingham house for a year which I loved so much that after graduating from St Mary's university college in Twickenham with a 2.1 in theology I decided to come back!!

While at university I discovered that I was quite good at rugby and managed to somehow represent not only my university but also my county and was even selected for a national student team.

In addition to playing rugby, I'm a first dan in karate, quite a good Irish dancer, a Fulham fan and can play the cello. I love all types of music from rock to dubstep and TV shows from grey's anatomy to Gavin and Stacey!

I suppose I should mention how I got involved in Walsingham house. When I was 14 I spent a lot of time struggling to accept my faith. My priest at the time made a valiant effort to get me more involved. He suggested a weekend camping with other young Catholics, it wasn't my idea of a weekend of fun but it started off a chain of events that changed my life. I made friends there who encouraged me to get involved with the Brentwood Catholic Youth Service and through them I started to go to Monthly youth Mass, Easter and summer Lourdes and Walsingham house. My experience at all these events led me to Canvey to spend a year working with young people.

Walsingham house is a special place, if you come and visit on retreat you'll soon find that out. As a young person who used to come on retreats here I discovered it was a place where my faith was truly accepted and  the house gave me the courage and confidence to accept that my faith was an intrinsic part of who I was and that I should never be ashamed of that.

My message for anyone coming on retreat here is to be open with everything we offer you. Come here with an open mind and be prepared for lots of laughter, fun and friendship!

Peace,
Siobhan
